What is Phentermine?

Phentermine, otherwise known as phenyl-tertiary-butylamine, is a controlled substance often prescribed as an appetite suppressant.  It is also sold under the names of Adipex, Anoxine, and Zantryl, among others.  Though approved for prescription by the FDA, there is some question as to whether this is the best way to go about losing weight.

Phentermine works to suppress appetite by stimulating specific neurons in the brain that release dopamine, adrenaline, and norepinephrine.  These chemicals are commonly associated with feelings of well-being or increased mental alertness and they also simulate the signal received from your stomach to tell you that you are full.

Phentermine is certainly a product backed by quite a bit of research and regulated carefully by the FDA, but it still carries some risk of significant side effects.  If you have tried most other options and still struggle with dieting, you may want to talk to your doctor to try a phentermine product, but expect close scrutiny from you doctor while using it and very high cost as it is prescription.
